Costus spicatus- Called the ‘Indianhead’ ginger because of its flower silhouette. Easy to grow and relatively cold hardy. Produces red cones in summer with orange flowers; can be used as a cut flower. Grows 6'-7' in medium sun. Outstanding spiraling stems. Makes great container plant.

Most do best in partial shade; however some thrive in full sun, others in full shade. So gingers provide plants for all light conditions. Many species enter dormancy in response to shorter days, cool temperatures, or dry conditions. Rhizomes (the underground stem) survive in a dormant condition beneath the soil surface during cold or dry conditions.
