GINGER/CALATHEA:
CULTURAL DIRECTIONS
UPON RECEIPT OF BAREROOT GROWING PLANT:
Soil temperatures should be above 55º F. in
order to sustain good growth. 60º F.to 70º F.
soil temperatures are best.
Carefully unwrap and plant in loose soil
at same level (see markings on stem) it was
growing.
You may plant directly into the ground or
in a pot.
Water thoroughly initially. Thereafter keep
soil evenly moist but not wet.
A good fertilizer, such as Stokes Tropicals’
Ginger Blend (8-4-6), can be worked into soil
away from the rhizome.
Gingers like plenty of water and fertilizer during
the growing season.
Keep pH in the 5 – 7 range;
this can best be done by adding Stokes Tropicals’ Humic Acid, an organic non-burning pH adjuster.
Also our liquid fertilizers Flowering Tropicals
Blend (7-9-5) or Tropical Foliage Blend (9-3-6)
are excellent for all our gingers.
