Tulbaghia violacea ‘Variegated Society Garlic’, ‘Variegata’, ‘Silver Lace’-Native to South Africa, this plant isn’t actually garlic, but it does have the same smell just not as strong. This cultivar is a long blooming perennial that is very easy to care for. ‘Variegated Society Garlic’ is an evergreen in frost free climates or in greenhouses. The straplike leaves are green with a whitish-yellow stripe down the center and when damaged, they put off a strong garlic odor. This species grows quickly from 12 to 24 inches in height. The pretty lavender flowers make this plant eye catching and have a sweet scent. Blooms in mid summer. Grows and thrives in full sun to partial shade. Water regularly but be sure not to overwater.
