Product Details:

Wodyetia bifurcata 'Foxtail Palm' The foxtail palm has arching fronds that have leaflets that radiate away from the leaf in all directions.  This makes the leaf have the look of a fox tail.  This easy to grow palm is not very cold hardy.  It is very possible, however, to grow a mature foxtail palm in zone 9 with protection from deep freezes.  A beautiful palm that will surely become more popular as time goes on.  Can grow as much as 2-3 feet a year under optimal conditions.  Adaptable to a variety of soils and enjoys full sun.  Definitely more impressive than the queen palm.

Palms are not typical trees. Instead of branching out, they grow huge leaves from a giant bud at their apex. The palm grows taller as this bud keeps producing new leaves and the lowest leaves die and fall. Next to the grasses, the palm family is most important in its usefulness to man. In some tropical countries the entire economy is based on palms, with the trees supplying food, shelter, and clothing. Worldwide, palms are an important source of food, vegetable oil, and sugar. They also provide timber, fiber, rattan cane, carnauba wax, and button ivory. We use them for everything from fuel and shampoo to the coconut seasoning of cakes and curries. Palms are planted as ornamentals for indoor and outdoor use to provide a tropical atmosphere.

Growing Zone:

10 and higher. "Hardiness" is the capability of a plant to survive cold temperatures. In order to provide a system for identifying the extent of cold temperatures in a particular location, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued a map that divides North America into eleven Hardiness Zones.
