Ziziphus jujuba Thai Giant Jujube-The Jujube is an interesting tree that has its origins in the Asian tropics.  Jujube is adaptable to a variety of soils and is drought, flood, and wind tolerant. The fruit has a crisp flesh and when ripe, resembles a baked apple in taste.  Jujube can be eaten fresh, made into a drink, dried, or cooked.  The ‘Thai Giant’ Jujube is a nearly thornless variety with large leaves.  It produces numerous fruit that is about the size of chicken eggs.  This variety tolerates pruning and grows between 12 and 15 feet tall with a 15 foot spread.  The ‘Thai Giant’ is an Indian strain which will fruit within a couple of years.        

Growing Zone:

9 and higher. "Hardiness" is the capability of a plant to survive cold temperatures. In order to provide a system for identifying the extent of cold temperatures in a particular location, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued a map that divides North America into eleven Hardiness Zones.
