Plumerias (also called frangipanis) are at once the most beautiful and fragrant trees in the plant world. They are all natives of the New World tropics. The word plumeria connotes perfume. There are 7 species and over 200 named varieties. From their native habitat in the American tropics they have been introduced to all tropical areas of the world with great success. Plumeria flowers are what leis are made of in Hawaii. Plumeria Candy Stripe- Has been called Pinwheel, Pinwheel Rainbow, and Barbers Pole. This cultivar is a striking blend of white, red and yellow stripes. Other distinguishing characteristics are its ability to root quickly, its vigor, and a tendency to produce multiple branches. Flower 2 1/2 to 3 inches. Sweet fragrance.
