Product Details:

Special plants are those that we think are unique and interesting. We offer them to the adventurous gardeners who would like to add more tropical interest and color to their garden or home. Stokes Tropicals has carefully chosen a wide range of exciting tropical plants that are easy-to-grow, that are not commonly available, that have some unusual horticultural interest, and can be successfully grown in containers. We are constantly searching for new and exciting plants, particularly tropicals--from Europe, Asia, Australia, North America, and South America. Aspidistra elatior Cast Iron Plant- Often grown as a container, porch, or house plant, Cast Iron requires little maintenance. Native to China, this species makes a beautiful groundcover, where it is hardy, and gives a nice tropical look. The dark green, leathery looking leaves grow vertical to heights of about 20 to 30 inches. Cast Iron should be planted in moderate or even deep shade and protected from direct sunlight. When planted in direct sun, the plant tends to look bleached or stressed. Cast Iron should be watered regularly, but not over watered. In the Southern U.S. this is an heirloom plant. Zones 7 and higher.

Growing Zone:

7 and higher. "Hardiness" is the capability of a plant to survive cold temperatures. In order to provide a system for identifying the extent of cold temperatures in a particular location, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued a map that divides North America into eleven Hardiness Zones.
