Zamioculcas zamiifolia Emerald Fronds ZZ Plant- An amazing aroid from Africa. Superficially resembles a cycad hence the genus and species name. Produces 2 to 3 foot long pointed spears line with alternating shiny dark leaves. Grows from an underground tuber. Has tolerated subfreezing temperatures down to 24F planted outdoors and returned the following spring. Makes great houseplants because it grows well in containers, can tolerate low humidity, low light, and needs little water and little fertilizer. Full shade to medium sun. Zones 9 and higher. "Better Homes and Garden Magazine" claims the ZZ Plant is the houseplant of the future.
