Bambusa oldhamii Giant Timber Bamboo- Native to southern China, oldhamii is an attractive timber bamboo. It is the most common and widely grown in the United States. This noninvasive clumper makes a great landscape plant that can be trimmed to make nice dense hedges. The very thick walled culms grow straight and have short branches with wide leaves. New shoots have an excellent taste, and is widely cultivated in Taiwan for this purpose. The culms wood is used for building construction, and makes attractive furniture. The height of this giant bamboo varies due to climate and light conditions.
