Scientific Name:

Gingers of Thailand

Product Details:

Gingers of Thailand- Gingers belong to one of the most important components of the ground cover of the tropical forests of SE Asia. They are also found at high altitudes in the mountains as well as in rubber plantations and bamboo thickets in the lowlands. There are very few plant communities in this part of the world that are without Gingers. One of the hot spots for these beautiful plants is the continental monsoon region of Asia, and here Thailand plays a major role as home for one of the worlds most diversified Ginger floras. Until now the knowledge of these highly ornamental plants has mainly been known to a limited audience through scientific publications and only few species have found their way to tropical gardens. This is the first book on the Thai Ginger flora written for non-specialists by two botanists who have worked for almost 50 years exploring not only Gingers but the forest community of Thailand from North to South. It is hoped with this book a new world of beauty will be opened up. A book that tells not only how much we have discovered during the last decades but also the many questions that still remain to be solved. With over 300 species of Gingers, Thailand harbours not only treasure of immense value, but also a treasure that is highly endangered. This generation has a great responsibility in conserving Thai biodiversity and hopefully this book can also be helpful in this respect.
