Strelitzia reginae Orange Bird of Paradise- This slow growing South African evergreen, Strelitzia reginae Orange Bird of Paradise, produces flowers all through the year. They are held above the foliage, which may reach 6 feet in height. The foliage and flowers are excellent in arrangements. It blooms best in sun with a rich, moist soil and has moderate wind, salt, and drought tolerance. The plants will need to be at least five years old before they bloom. When its a couple feet tall and the roots are crowding the container, you can expect blooming to start. It is a bright accent specimen and may be used as a hedge, low screen, in groupings, or as a container plant. It is also good near the pool.
