Plumeria 'Marion B'™- Good frangipani fragrance; Seedling of Pink Pansy; Flower: a rainbow of pink, white and yellow; Max. flower size: 3 inch.

Plumerias (also called frangipanis) are at once the most beautiful and fragrant trees in the plant world. They are all natives of the New World tropics. The word plumeria connotes perfume. There are 7 species and over 200 named varieties. From their native habitat in the American tropics they have been introduced to all tropical areas of the world with great success. Plumeria flowers are what leis are made of in Hawaii.

Their growth habits, shape and leaf and floral beauty are unrivaled among trees. With proper care and attention plumeria can be successfully grown throughout the U.S. They make wonderful pot plants. Foolproof cultural methods are available.

Plumerias have very few insect or disease problems. Just feed and water and protect from freezing temperatures and they do great. The fragrances of plumeria flowers are legend ranging from coconut to jasmine and including citrus, rose, honeysuckle, raspberry, spice, apricot and peach. Flower color varies from pure white to deep red with yellows, golds, oranges, roses, pinks and all combinations in between.

The plumeria is unique among trees, it can be lifted from the soil in the colder months and stored in a basement, garage, greenhouse or other enclosure for the winter, replanted after the last frost, and then brought into bloom. The plumeria plant goes dormant in the winter losing its leaves and requires no care. They grow and bloom well in the ground or in containers. In containers they are wonderful for creating tropical floral highlights in gardens, or on patios or decks, and along walkways. But plumerias need protection when temperatures drop below 38°F. Stokes Tropicals' Plumeria Blend (8-14-10) fertilizer is the very best fertilizer source for these miraculous plants.

Stokes Tropicals brings together the best of the Hawaiian and the best of the Floridian hybrids along with the newest seedling hybrids for one of the premier collections of plumerias in the world.

Product Reviews:

Love it!

Pros I live in Indianapolis, IN and my husband bought me this for my birthday last August. It came with a few leaves, but no blooms. I re-potted it in a bigger pot with some cactus soil, and kept it in our big front window next to the heat register all winter long. It never went dormant. As soon as spring frost was over, I moved it outside in its pot, and used Schultz's African Violet fertilizer (8-14-9) on it once a wk w/ my watering. It has more than doubled its size now and my first blossom opened this morning (August 17)! YAY! It's so beautiful and smells amazing! Much brighter coloring than the picture here shows. It currently has nearly 40 leaves on the two branches and I counted about 30 more blossoms on their way. I just love it!
Cons Does require some special products like the cactus (or sandy/well-draining soil) and fertilizer. And I do a lot of moving it to the porch and back so it won't get blown over during our Indiana windstorms/tornado weather.
Comments I love it! It's rewarding to see so many fragrant, gorgeous blooms after nearly a year of TLC!
