Plumeria 'Slaughter Pink'- Offered by Stokes Tropicals for the first time.  We expect it to be our number 1 seller this year. One of the old timers and one of the original 51 named plumeria registered by Plumeria Society of America in the 1980s. Grown from seeds brought to Houston, TX from Indonesia prior to 1950; seed and pollen parents unknown. Vigorous grower and easy bloomer; sets seed easily. Beautiful 4 to 4 1/2 inch flowers with strong citrus fragrance; as featured in Eggenbergers The Handbook on Plumeria Culture. Good branching and compact growth habit.

Plumerias (also called frangipanis) are at once the most beautiful and fragrant trees in the plant world. They are all natives of the New World tropics. The word plumeria connotes perfume. There are 7 species and over 200 named varieties. From their native habitat in the American tropics they have been introduced to all tropical areas of the world with great success. Plumeria flowers are what leis are made of in Hawaii.

Their growth habits, shape and leaf and floral beauty are unrivaled among trees. With proper care and attention plumeria can be successfully grown throughout the U.S. They make wonderful pot plants. Foolproof cultural methods are available.

Plumerias have very few insect or disease problems. Just feed and water and protect from freezing temperatures and they do great. The fragrances of plumeria flowers are legend ranging from coconut to jasmine and including citrus, rose, honeysuckle, raspberry, spice, apricot and peach. Flower color varies from pure white to deep red with yellows, golds, oranges, roses, pinks and all combinations in between.

The plumeria is unique among trees, it can be lifted from the soil in the colder months and stored in a basement, garage, greenhouse or other enclosure for the winter, replanted after the last frost, and then brought into bloom. The plumeria plant goes dormant in the winter losing its leaves and requires no care. They grow and bloom well in the ground or in containers. In containers they are wonderful for creating tropical floral highlights in gardens, or on patios or decks, and along walkways. But plumerias need protection when temperatures drop below 38°F. Stokes Tropicals' Plumeria Blend (8-14-10) fertilizer is the very best fertilizer source for these miraculous plants.

Stokes Tropicals brings together the best of the Hawaiian and the best of the Floridian hybrids along with the newest seedling hybrids for one of the premier collections of plumerias in the world.

Growing Zone:

10 and higher. "Hardiness" is the capability of a plant to survive cold temperatures. In order to provide a system for identifying the extent of cold temperatures in a particular location, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued a map that divides North America into eleven Hardiness Zones.
