Special Plants are those that we think are unique and interesting. We offer them to the adventurous gardeners who would like to add more tropical interest and color to their garden or home. Stokes Tropicals has carefully chosen a wide range of exciting tropical plants that are easy-to-grow, that are not commonly available, that have some unusual horticultural interest, and can be successfully grown in containers. We are constantly searching for new and exciting plants, particularly tropicals--from Europe, Asia, Australia, North America, and South America. Hylocereus undatus Thai Dragon Fruit- A fantastic new edible fruit plant obtained from Thailand. The Dragon Fruit is a vining, terrestrial with fleshy stems. Very large, (up to 14 inches long by 12 inches across) white, fragrant flowers adorn the plant in late spring to early fall. Flowers are elaborate and bloom only at night. If pollination occurs, round, red or golden colored, edible fruits appear. The round fruit is covered with distinguished scales and can get up to 5 inches long. Enclosed in the thin rind is a large mass of sweetly flavored pulp and numerous small black seeds. The fruit can be eaten out-of-hand, and is also used as a flavoring in pastries and drinks. In full production, Thai Dragon Fruit may have up to 6 fruiting cycles per year. Grow Thai Dragon Fruit in well-drained soils, in full sun to partial shade. Water this cactus regularly and do not allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Fast grower. Easy-to-grow. Easy to containerize. Quantities limited. Zones 10 and higher.

Growing Zone:

10 and higher. "Hardiness" is the capability of a plant to survive cold temperatures. In order to provide a system for identifying the extent of cold temperatures in a particular location, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued a map that divdes North America into eleven Hardiness Zones
