Scientific Name:

Ctenanthe oppenheimiana

Product Details:

Special Plants are those that we think are unique and interesting. We offer them to the adventurous gardeners who would like to add more tropical interest and color to their garden or home. Stokes Tropicals has carefully chosen a wide range of exciting tropical plants that are easy-to-grow, that are not commonly available, that have some unusual horticultural interest, and can be successfully grown in containers. We are constantly searching for new and exciting plants, particularly tropicals--from Europe, Asia, Australia, North America, and South America. Ctenanthe oppenheimiana Tricolor- also known as the "Never-Never Plant" This plant comes from Brazil. It is widely grown species that is normally about 18 inches high but can grow taller under high-quality conditions. Its 10-12 inches long leaves are rather lopsided and have a zigzag pattern of extensive grayish bars on a dull green background, with dull red undersides. Most commonly grown is the cultivar Tricolor with unequal blothches of creamy yellow; the red bottoms give it a reddish glow from above.

Growing Zone:

9 and higher. "Hardiness" is the capability of a plant to survive cold temperatures. In order to provide a system for identifying the extent of cold temperatures in a particular location, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued a map that divides North America into eleven Hardiness Zones.
